Inter University Consortium for promotion of social sciences (IUCPSS) on Tuesday Apr 14, 2015 hosted a reception in honor of 11 mountaineers who conducted a “peace walk” from Gilgit-Baltistan to Islamabad. The 1012-km walk from Khaplu in Gilgit-Baltistan to Islamabad took the volunteers a month. Along the road, they visited over 200 towns and several districts to promote peace.

The team leader, Ghulam Hussain said, the main objective of their long walk was to convey the message to International community that Pakistan was a peaceful country and that Pakistanis are tolerant and generous people. He said the team got the chance to talk to the people in different town along the way on peace, tourism and patience. “We have acknowledged overwhelming response from the people”.

IUCPSS chairman and the University of Haripur Vice-Chancellor Dr. Naseer Ali Khan said that Pakistan was abundant in natural beauty and rich cultural legacy. He said, “Through such walks and events, we can sponsor the soft image of the country and attract foreign tourists and investors to Pakistan”.
The mountaineers also urged the government to support local mountaineers in Gilgit-Baltistan. The association is a union of 25 Pakistani Universities.
